May Goals

Goals are worthless if you never revisit them. While I might have mentioned them a time or two on Instagram, it’s time to elevate them to regular posting topics. So we’ll start with May because there’s no better time to start than the present, right?

My full 2019 goals are here in this post about a book that inspired me in my goal setting. You might want to check that post out first.

Let’s start with a quick recap of where I am when it comes to these overall goals:

Physical Goal

I haven’t been training for a 5k, and while May is just beginning, I doubt there’s enough time to do it properly before the end of the month. However, we did join a local gym at the end of April. I’ve consistently had a date with the treadmill at o’dark thirty in the mornings.

Spiritual Goal

We visited a couple of churches and then kind of fizzled out. Still have the original list, just need to get ourselves out of bed in time on Sunday morning.

Intellectual Goal

Well, surprisingly, I’ve killed this one, if I do say so myself. I hit 15 books in 2019 a few weeks ago when I completed Unbreakable. Not slowing down, though, as I’ve got three books checked out right now on my Kindle – Triggers, Atomic Habits and Design Your Life. I’ll do another post on my library/kindle/book relationship.

Social Goal

I’ve been regularly attending the local WordPress Meetups for the past couple of months. So this one is on track.

Avocational Goal

This one’s a bit weird… I did the online training to volunteer at our local shelter, but I’m not quite sure what to do next and can’t get anyone to respond when I ask. Might just have to show up and say “what can I do?” lol

Vocational Goal

This has been a hit or miss one. I need to work on consistently making some progress. Seems like I work a bunch on my side hustle and then stop for a while. I need to keep the ball rolling.

Financial Goal

We’ve slowly but surely making progress towards paying off credit cards and other debt. Next payday we should pay off another card and then start snowballing the next one. It’s the not adding new debt that I need to work on. Keeping those balances moving down instead of up!

Marital Goal

We’ve been doing good with date nights and counseling. One day I’ll post more details, because I feel that it’s important to share our story.

Emotional Goal

This one is going to change a bit. Learning more about myself in our counseling sessions has me rethinking my focus here. More about that later too. Reading Triggers was good timing to help map out some behavioral change.

May Goals

So that brings us to May… here are my goals. (Note: I’m not highlighting all of the above, but picking no more than 3 to focus on during the month.)

  • Work out at least three times per week. (physical)
  • Finish writing my eBook. (vocational)
  • Define and create a plan of action for personal growth. (emotional) – I know, it’s kind of vague, but I know exactly what this means.

I’ll check in mid-month with an update and then a recap at the end of the month. And hopefully there will be a few posts in between here and there. Hopefully!

What are your goals for May? And how are you doing on your overall goals? Tell me about it in the comments!
